Sculptural white lattice building facade

Learn about our approach to taking projects from initial idea to successful completion. Evolving needs of their occupants.

Every project starts with one question: how will this place actually be lived in? Square metres, facades and material choices all come after the answer. A plan drawn without understanding someone's daily rhythm may look good on paper and still be tiring to use.

Use first, form second

The real test of a home or an office is not the first day but the third year. How the light turns through the day, where storage lands, whether the hallway jams on a busy morning — these only surface once a place is inhabited. That is why we begin with use cases: who does what, where, and at what hour.

Fewer, better materials

A short material list makes both the site work and the maintenance easier. A small number of well-chosen surfaces keeps its character even as it wears. Finishes are easy to replace; structure, services and insulation are expensive to correct later. Putting the weight of the budget into the work you cannot see pays off over time.

A record of decisions

Every decision is written down with its reasoning. When nobody remembers why a detail was resolved a certain way six months on, one small call made on site can undo the whole design. A written rationale keeps everyone who joins the project on the same line.

Good design is not a grand gesture. It is an ease you never notice: the door opens the right way, the socket is where you reach for it, the light falls on the page you are reading.
